May Story of the Month

Shelter to Home works hand in hand with several North Shore agencies including the North Shore Crisis Center/Sage House, Hollyburn Family, Seniors’ and Victim Services, Vancouver Coastal Health, Canadian Mental Health Association, and Lookout to name a few. These agencies often assist their clients to find housing, and then refer them to us to create a home out of an empty room or apartment. At the end of May, we were delighted to connect to another agency, when we met the new Manager of Marineview Housing which provides housing for people living with mental illness. One apartment building is called Chesterfield House, where tenants live independently and receive support from the manager. The three other buildings are group homes, which offer the tenants life skills training, with the goal that they will move to independent living. Our new contact at Marineview Housing has come to Shelter to Home in the hopes that we can renew worn furniture in both common areas of the 4 buildings, and in some individual apartments. We’re grateful to all our donors who will make this dream a reality.
